District Letter
November 27, 2023
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Madison County Schools is fortunate to participate in Non-Traditional Instructional Days (NTI
Days) through the Kentucky Department of Education. This means the district is eligible to
designate up to 10 school days in the 2023-2024 school year as NTI days. Those days will be
used to accommodate for inclement weather, excessive illness, or other unforeseen situations
requiring the district to cancel classes on a regularly scheduled school day.
As a parent/guardian, we realize you may have questions about how NTI days will work for your
child(ren). Below are answers to some important questions:
● Students will NOT attend school on NTI days. They will have assigned work to be
completed.
● Students will spend 3 to 4 hours on an NTI day, depending on their grade level,
completing school-related work.
● Some schools will send home packets of work to be completed; others will ask students
to complete work online. That information is enclosed from your child(ren)’s school.
● Teachers will be available during the school day either by telephone or online.
● Students will be expected to complete NTI day work within seven (7) calendar days from
the day classes resume. For example, classes resume on a Wednesday. That would mean
students have until the following Wednesday to complete the NTI Day work.
● Notification of NTI days will occur in the same way notification occurs for snow days or
other cancellations – local television news, local radio, school and district websites,
school and district social media sites, and the district’s mass communications system.
Instead of “school is cancelled,” you will see “NTI Day.”
Madison County Schools is grateful for the opportunity to work with your child(ren) each day.
Thank you for your cooperation as we prepare for Non-Traditional Instruction across our district.
Respectfully,
David Gilliam
Superintendent
Madison County Schools
